Human Rights Need a Transcendent Foundation

现代世界广泛接受人人享有固有的、不可剥夺的人权。但很少有人追问:这些权利的基础是什么?如果人类只是进化的偶然产物——复杂的生化机器——那么凭什么说人有固有的尊严和权利?在纯粹自然主义的世界观中,“人权”只能是社会契约或文化约定,没有真正的本体论基础。历史上,人权概念直接源于基督教的人论:人是按上帝的形象被造的(创世记1:27),因此每个人都有固有的、不可剥夺的尊严。这不是文化赋予的,而是造物主赋予的。没有上帝,“人权”就变成了一种无根基的信念。

The modern world widely accepts that all humans possess inherent, inalienable rights. But few ask: what grounds these rights? If humans are merely accidental products of evolution — complex biochemical machines — on what basis do we claim inherent dignity and rights? In a purely naturalistic worldview, 'human rights' can only be social contracts or cultural conventions without genuine ontological grounding. Historically, the concept of human rights directly derives from the Christian doctrine of humanity: humans are made in God's image (Genesis 1:27), so every person possesses inherent, inalienable dignity. This is not culturally bestowed but Creator-given. Without God, 'human rights' becomes a groundless belief.
