I'm afraid of family opposition and social persecution if I believe, so I don't dare.

简答 Short Answer

Jesus never hid that following Him costs something. But He promised that what is given up for Him will be repaid a hundredfold, and the Holy Spirit will give you strength and peace to face persecution.

Detailed Answer

Your fear is real and honest. Jesus Himself predicted this: 'In this world you will have trouble' (John 16:33); 'A person's enemies will be those of his own household' (Matthew 10:36). Christ never used false promises to attract followers — He told His disciples plainly to take up their cross.

**But consider these things:**

1. **Compare the cost with the value.** Paul said: 'I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us' (Romans 8:18). The cost of faith is temporary, but what you gain — eternal life and relationship with God — is forever.

2. **God gives sufficient grace.** Early church believers faced far worse persecution — imprisonment, thrown to lions, crucifixion — yet stood firm by the Spirit's power, even rejoicing in suffering (Acts 5:41). God may not remove difficulties, but He always gives strength to overcome them.

3. **Your life may transform your family.** Many Christians testify: family members initially opposed fiercely, but seeing genuine life transformation eventually drew them to Christ. Your patience and love may become the pathway to your family's salvation.

4. **What matters more than human opinion.** 'The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe' (Proverbs 29:25). Human opposition is temporary, but where you stand before the eternal Judge is what truly matters.

Jesus said: 'Everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven' (Matthew 10:32). Take courage — God is with you.
